My paternal ancestors arrived from <strong>Sicily<\/strong> in the mid-1700s, soon becoming known as <strong>Atrani\u2019s only pasta makers.<\/strong> That old pasta factory is still my relatives\u2019 home today \u2014 a family bond crossing centuries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 1946, my uncle <strong>Gabriele Di Benedetto<\/strong> was elected the first mayor of Atrani after the end of the dictatorship. <strong>Ferdinando<\/strong>, my maternal grandfather, worked to open schools in Amalfi\u2019s remote villages, while <strong>Andrea<\/strong>, my paternal grandfather \u2014 after returning from war in Rhodes, Greece \u2014 became <strong>principal of Amalfi\u2019s classical high school<\/strong> and a <strong>renowned scholar of Greek and Latin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row row_height_percent=&#8221;0&#8243;
