The Paper Mills Valley is, without a doubt, my favorite hike. I have a deep connection to this enchanting corner of the Amalfi Coast, so much so that almost every day I take a “daily walk in the park” here, a place that feels like home to me, a true open-air temple.

Located behind Amalfi, the valley offers an unexpected surprise to those who visit: lush vegetation, breathtaking waterfalls, crystal-clear springs, and fascinating ruins of what was once Amalfi’s industrial district. A true feast of beauty, nestled in a natural limestone amphitheater.

On this journey, I’ll guide you to discover the history and culture of this extraordinary paradise. Along the trail, we’ll explore the unique characteristics of the terraced landscape, the coastal biodiversity, and the remnants of ancient industries that once thrived in the area.

Due to a landslide that occurred in 2022 along the trail leading to Amalfi, the current itinerary begins and ends in the picturesque medieval village of Pontone. Nonetheless, you’ll have the opportunity to visit all the wonders the valley has to offer.

You can also start the tour on foot from Amalfi, but that would require a long uphill staircase to reach Pontone.

The medieval village of Pontone (Scala) is also accessible by local bus from Amalfi.

To optimize a half-day exploration, you can combine this tour with the Torre dello Ziro for a spectacular view of Amalfi and Atrani.
