Capri, a haven for free spirits, has been home to a large community of Uranists (gay) and Amazons (lesbians) from all over Europe. It has long been a crossroads of extraordinary stories that shaped the culture of this beautiful island. Sadly, this heritage has been hidden for too long, but now I want to bring it back to light, celebrating the contributions of our community to Capri’s history and imagination. This hike is the perfect experience for those wishing to connect with Capri’s queer past.

I will guide you through an intriguing and often forgotten side of the island, uncovering centuries of scandals and legends, from those connected to Emperor Tiberius to stories about the German industrialist Krupp. You’ll discover why Capri has been a refuge and place of peace for queer writers, artists, and travelers in search of serenity amidst the Mediterranean landscape. Here, Nature and Queer Culture intertwine as a testament to beauty and freedom.

A journey through Capri’s Queer history.

The tour begins in Marina Grande and heads towards the higher district of Capri. Along the way, we’ll stop at significant places to share stories and the legacy left by queer members who have written the history of this island. We’ll also visit the iconic Villa Lysis, where we’ll immerse ourselves in the breathtaking beauty of the location and honor the memory of Jacques d’Adelswärd Fersen and Nino Cesarini, two figures who left an indelible mark on Capri’s queer culture.

The path continues back into Capri’s center, where we’ll uncover the intimate stories, gossip, and parties that defined the island’s queer community life. This walk will allow you to discover a less touristy, more authentic, and peaceful side of Capri, where you can reconnect with an open-air temple set between the blue Mediterranean and the azure sky.

While most of the tour takes place along the streets of Capri, there will also be a small section on a trail, so comfortable walking shoes are essential.

At the end of the walk, you’ll have some free time to explore the town center and take photos from the most iconic spots on the island before returning by ferry.

The tour does not include the ferry fare to Capri or other transport. After booking, I will provide all the necessary information, including meeting points on the island.
